Working on the bases

I put together the transport drone couple of nights ago. I also started working on the base for it.
I wanted the drone to fly higher than normal so i put a layer of cork sheet down the bottom. I cut trough the other layers to fit the stick. I actually quite like the transport drone model. This model will get the lava base.

Normal bases to show scale and the flying heigth

I also started to work on the gun team and the leader with her bodyquard Vardanari(?) or something like that. Ive been away from the game for so long that i have no idea what are my guys called or what they do in the game. Might need to read the rulebook again sometime. I cut away all of the metal around the legs as i dont want to hide all that metal into the cork.

On to other things, im not sure that should i keep this blog or not... One option is to change into facebook. Would be easier to make these post, but on other hand its hard to follow any timeline in facebook and the stuff will get lost around in there. Dont know... what do you think? If i keep this blog it most certainly needs a facelift and a change of scheme atleast.

Getting back to the hobby

I know, I know... i have said this before but im saying it again. I am getting back to the hobby. As before ive have had big life events happening in my life. But now i have most things sorted again so its time to start hobbying again.

I have made some investments for modelling and painting, like getting proper tools and paints etc. I will posting about those later (still in the mail)

New Project

I wont be setting any kind of timetable for my project or when im going to make new posts. I dont want to get any kind of stress. I dont have that much of time with the hobby, but every now i then i can squeeze in some miniature time and ill try to make the most of it.

So, onto my new project. Recently i triend to get rid of my Gates of Antares rulebook and starter army. Because the market for Antares is rather small in Finland, no-one bought them. Because of that i decide to paint them for practice. These are the guys im talking about :

The force consists of: Freeborn starter army and the sky raider squad.

I have made a project plan that shows the rough guidelines im going to follow:

Theme: My theme will be set around transports and sky raider squads. Ill try to have as many units as possible into transports and the rest will be sky raiders. No indirect fire weapons, and as little weapon teams as possible.

The force will be fighting in a semi-vulcanic planet. The bases will be sand, stone and lave. Rough guidelines for the bases are something like this: Regular soldiers will be a base with sand and stone only. Weapon teams and leaders (mounted onto bigger bases) will be getting sand, stone and lava. Skyraiders and other flyers will be getting stone and more lava as they will be flying over the lave fields that have started to form onto the surface of the planet.

Paint Theme: The force will be painted with greys and layered reds. How? Im not certain yet, i need to make some test models first. My concern is that the theme will mix too much with the bases but we'll see

Yesterday evening i made some bases for my 16 regular freeborn fighters. I dont know if im ever going to play this game, so i have no idea if their equipment is good or not. I had based them onto the normal plastic bases that come with them but i decided to redo them and used small washers for bases. This will hopefully help me in future is i will start to use model holders when painting.

Finished bases left to dry
There you have it. Tell me what you think? This blog is also for keeping my motivation up, so ill be posting links to couple of places for it.
